OLYMPIAN Larry Achike came to take a masterclass in jumps at Southend High School for Girls when the Southend East Schools Partnership held a special session for the town’s gifted and talented students.

The pupils heard about Achike’s triple jump achievements and what he had to go through to make it as an elite athlete.

They learnt about his tough decision as a youngster in being asked to represent England at rugby the same day he was selected for a world athletics event.

Of course, he chose the athletics pathway and won the World Juniors in triple jump and went on to his senior career.

The young people had lots of questions for the Olympian and gained a lot of knowledge on what to expect for their future careers.

The students then took part in a special hour-long masterclass in jumps.

The unique tutorial showed youngsters what drills triple jumped didand technical points to help them in their athletics.
